Reiki
Reiki is a Japanese technique used for stress reduction and relaxation. It was developed in the 19th century and has been practiced in the United States since the 1930s. Reiki is a natural and simple healing method used by individuals around the world as well as in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, spas and hospices. Reiki focuses on balancing energy of the body using gentle, non-invasive touch to promote mental, physical and spiritual well being. The term “Reiki” loosely translates as “universal energy.” Reiki does not have the corner on “universal energy.” Acupuncture, Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and Shiatsu, to name a few, all involve working with this energy on some level. During a session a person is fully clothed, seated in a chair or reclined on a massage table. The practitioner places hands on or near the person’s body in a series of positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, legs and feet. People often feel a sensation of warmth from the practitioner’s hands, while others may feel nothing in particular except they are very relaxed afterward. This deep sense of relaxation allows the body to release tension and stress, and promotes a state of well-being. Reiki treatments are a great gift to give yourself, a friend or loved one. A typical treatment lasts between 45 - 60 minutes.
