David Wallin
In
1981 I began taking Hatha
Yoga classes at the Yoga Institute of Houston with Lex Gillian.
In 1987, after relocating to Chicago I began studying with Suddha
Weixler at the Chicago Yoga Center.
I
completed my teacher training in with Suddha in 1995 and have
been teaching ever since. Over the years I’ve studied many
styles of yoga with many
teachers. These include; Ashtanga yoga with Sri K. Pattabhi Jois
and Richard Freeman, Ayurveda and yoga with Scott Blossom, Anusara
yoga with John Friend, Yin Yoga and anatomy with Paul Grilley,
Yin and Vinyasa yoga with Sarah Powers, yoga and anatomy with
Tias Little and Visesha Vinyasa krama yoga with Srivatsa Ramaswami.
I’ve also been influenced by the
writings of Erich Schiffmann
and T.K.V. Desikachar as well as the Buddhist teachings of the
Dalai Lama and Thich Nat Han. I’m
also always learning new
things from my students as well. Everyone approaches yoga with
a unique set of physical and emotional needs. With that in mind,
I guide my students as they work to strengthen and open themselves
within their own capacity. Over time they create their own practice,
exploring and focusing on the asanas (yoga poses) and the processes
that work best for them.
My
classes combine soft Yin yoga, which targets the connective tissues
as well as more active poses that stretch and strengthen the muscles.
I also emphasize the breath and encourage opening the heart and
quieting the mind while practicing.
