Sometimes we find ourselves on a path that we could never have imagined; so it was for yoga and me. An international banker and banking consultant for the last 30 plus years, I ran all over the world like my hair was on fire. Twenty-three hour flights to Asia and hotel hopping were common occurrences, and, for the most part, life was gooda wonderful and supportive family with all the trappings of success. Yet the travel was taking a tremendous toll both physically and spiritually. I had to do something.
But before I could put a plan into place life propelled me forward toward unforeseenand scarycircumstances: some cardiac concerns, a major illness in the family and a serious accident that had me laid up for the better part of eight months. During this time I gave considerable thought to the way I wanted to live the second half of my life.
As I recovered, a wise friend suggested that I try yoga. Actually, he badgered me until I relented and agreed to take a single class. Suffering from sciatica, I forced myself to the class and, once there, was captivated by the practice. I guess it was a combination of what I needed in my life at that moment, the skillfulness of the teacher, and many other things that somehow influence our choices and the path we travel.
Just three months after my first yoga class I embraced the practice and, over a 22-day period, attended a series of intensives with Ana Forrest, recognized worldwide as a pioneer in yoga and emotional healing. Wanting to delve into the practice even further, I immediately enrolled in Ana’s teacher training in New York. It was really never my intent to teach, but rather to deepen my practice with the guidance of a wonderful master teacher. I continue to train when and where I can and practice vigorously.
As a yoga instructor I am able to help people in a very direct and immediate way, which is, ultimately, what inspired me to create Generations Yoga. Now, I am able to combine my extensive business experience and resources with my newfound passion for yoga. I had an answer to what I would do with the second half of my life.
