Ruth Ann Grant
A friend encouraged me to take my first yoga class at the park district near my home years ago. She hated it, and I loved it. That was the beginning of my deeper connection with myself. I grew to cherish the benefits of my personal yoga practice so much that I wanted to share yoga with others, especially pregnant women. My 200 hours of formal Hatha yoga teacher training included specialized training in Prenatal Yoga with Rhonda Kantor, R.N., the founder and director of Chicago's most well-respected prenatal yoga program. My teaching style is nurturing in a way that helps my students discover the path they want to follow in their yoga practice as well as their lives. My intention with prenatal yoga is to provide pregnant women the tools, physical fitness and body awareness to better appreciate the birthing process and the beauty of their bodies during this amazing time in their lives.
Yoga has truly given me the ability to connect my physical fitness with my mental fitness, and it allows me to fully accept my body for its achievements as well as its limitations. Like running, biking, hiking and swimming, yoga has become another healthful activity I enjoy sharing with my husband of more than 20 years and my teens, a daughter and a son. I am a graduate of Iowa State University's School of Journalism and continue to do freelance writing for the health care and medical fields.
